Dishwashing and Hygiene
Without plumbing, one must often try to conserve water. To do the dishes on a limited amount of water, heat water, preferably in the dirty pot, and pour it and a little dish soap into a washbasin. A good washbasin to use is a plastic bowl with a top, such as a Tupperware or Rubbermaid bowl.
Scrub dishes clean. When clean, spray the dishes with a spray bottle filled with water, and place them on a rack to dry. It will likely be easiest to do the dishes outside, and carry the rack of clean dishes inside.
The washbasin can also be used for personal hygiene purposes. A washcloth, soap and hot water can clean you up as well as a shower, although a shower is much more satisfying. Just make sure that you wash in the right order, for example, brush your teeth, take warm water to rinse your mouth, spit somewhere else than in the washbasin, wash your face and hair, shave, use a hand cloth to wash the rest of your body, finishing up by washing your crotch.
In some cases you will not want to open up the van to let people know that you are living and sleeping there. Snap the top on the basin, and dispose of the dishwater at the next convenient moment.
