Hi Tony and All,

I need exactly the same thing. I got a response from Icom USA that they don't have the M800 anymore and therefore the cable is not available anymore. Icom the Netherlands told me the unit and therefore also the cable is not available in Europe because it was never approved. Have you or anybody else found information where I can get such an item?

Thanks,

CB

hi again, i put my icom m800 to one side for a couple of years as i struggled to get the fibre optic cable working properly, i managed to get the radio working by placing the head unit upside down & alligning the 2 optical eyes in front of each other & things were good, if the optical eye on the head unit was remotely mounted 180 degrees round & directly in front of the main units optical eye it would surey work, the head unit would have to be physically mounted to the main unit & would be able to function correctly as long as the optical eyes were in sight of each other,il give a bit more time to the modification quite soon, tony

solution for icom ic m800 fibre optic cable

Postby Russellsher » Sun Nov 15, 2009 2:06 pm

Hi - I had the same problem. (a friend lost his opc-172 optical cable) I have fitted a normal wire cable connection beteen the remote head and the main unit. In order to do this you need three wires (Tx, Rx and ground). If you are interested I'll send more details as I need to explain a bit.
cheers
